Hi all,
I was given some Apache Hot chilli seeds back in May this year. I placed the 20 seeds in kitchen paper and dropped them in to a plastic zip bag. 2 Days later the little seeds had sprouted a root and were ready to sow. I decided to use coco husk with perlite as i'd used this before for other chillies. Once all the seeds where planted I popped them all in the heated propagator and sat back with a cup of tea.
From the 20 planted I ended getting 6 good plants, these have been doing really well and I must have had over 500 chillies and 2500 to 3000 seeds :). The chillies are amazingly versatile and for such a small chilli they really do pack some heat. I've dried most of the chillies picked and have ended up with 2 jars full.
If picked when green they have a sharp taste, very hot but not sweet, like this they are ideal for a curry thinly sliced. Picked red they have a sweeter taste, the heat seems to drop a little but lasts longer in your mouth.
The plan for these bad boys is to trim them back around Dec/Jan and let them bush out a bit for next year. I let them grow a little wild and have ended up with long branches with a a couple of chillies on the end.
I would recommend these to anyone, not as popular maybe as the big hots like the Butch T, Naga and Moruga but well worth a corner spot in any conservator or greenhouse. I'm that impressed I have added them to our chilli kit range here http://www.plantsfromseed.co.uk/products.php?product=Mini-Chilli-Kit.
